Dundee Arena Master Logos-04_edited.png
The Arena site is located on the north west corner of the Dundee Central Waterfront Development Site.

The waterfront proposals incorporate the redevelopment of 240 hectares of land stretching along the river bank, to provide a rejuvenated link between the city centre and the Tay River.
This joint venture between Scottish Enterprise and Dundee City Council, has already realised £500 Million of investment, and the main infrastructure and public realm work already implemented.
Completed building work includes a new Railway Station, Malmaison Hotel, Sleeperz Hotel, while the “jewel in the crown” of the Waterfront Development - the Victoria and Albert Museum, was opened to the public in September 2018.

The proposed Arena site incorporates “Site 2” of the Waterfront Development Masterplan (an existing car park), and the adjacent 100,000 sq ft Mecca Bingo fronting onto the busy Nethergate to the north. The bingo unit is a redevelopment of the original Green’s Playhouse built in 1936 to bring world class entertainment to the people of Dundee, and when constructed was only 100 people short of the 4100 capacity of Green’s Playhouse in Glasgow which was then the largest playhouse in Europe.

By joining these sites together it provides an ideal location for a modern major events venue in the centre of Dundee, and will directly link the existing city centre to the heart of the waterfront redevelopment.
The site is extremely well linked to public transport routes and is close to the recently completed new Railway Station.

Dundee has a population of around 150,000 with a catchment from surrounding areas raising this figure to 480,000 people. The City has existing city centre event facilities at the Caird Hall, however that venue is older and is limited to a maximum of 4,000 spectators, more recently seasonal external events for up to 10,000 people have successfully been hosted in Slessor Gardens.

The proposed Arena is to be flexible and provide capacity for all-seating events Up to 7,250, or 10,000 with standing spectators. Similar bespoke events space in Scotland have proved to be very popular and generated growth in the local economies – for example in 2016 the SECC Hydro in Glasgow was the world’s top events venues (for capacity between 10,000 – 15,000) and sold over 1,000,000 tickets in 2018.
